APRESENTAÇÃO

Os filhos, de hábito, pagam pelos desejos e dificuldades dos pais. Os primeiros são representados pelas exigências paternas de eles se graduarem em cursos fora de seus interesses, ou executar tarefas para as quais não têm qualquer habilidade. Cumprem aquela determinação porque eles, os pais, frustrados, não conseguiram fazer o que esperam ver realizado no filho. São desse grupo os médicos que adoram engenharia; os advogados que são apaixonados pela arquitetura ou a enfermeira que sonha publicar suas críticas literárias. A lista é longa. As dificuldades são vividas pelos filhos, como conseqüência daqueles desejos e são exemplos delas os nomes de batismo em desuso como Napoleão, Aristóteles, ou Arimatéia, todos apropriados para aqueles que os tornaram famosos, mas desastrosos para o garoto medroso e franzino, o pouco letrado ou o criminoso. 


Com atores famosos esses nomes não são diferentes. Conheci um certo John Wayne que se surpreendeu quando esclareci que o verdadeiro chama-se Marion. Por isso, a vida do nosso mineiro Errol Flynn, nome que o tornou quase tão conhecido em certas regiões do Brasil quanto o original, é cercada de episódios que se tornaram clichês e que não o perturbam mais: "muito prazer, Gary Cooper" ou o caso de alguém que o desconhece e se recusa a atendê-lo pelo telefone, imaginando ser um gozador à procura de uma vítima de trote. Errol Flynn, o ator hollywoodiano que, pela beleza, perturbou tantas mulheres nos anos 1940 e 1950, tem também biografia de dedo-duro, lamento informar aos seus ainda existentes fãs. O nosso Errol Flynn, mineiro de Abaeté, pertence à estirpe daqueles nascidos no pós-guerra, cujos pais, se tinham admiração pelo ator a ponto de colocar o seu nome no filho, tinham também a angústia e a tensão cotidianas de uma época cheia de conflitos bélicos, que os transformaram em guerreiros da vida. É essa a melhor definição para esse marchand, mas que já foi, profissionalmente, muito mais na vida. E em tudo que se envolveu foi com amor, dedicação e garra infinitas. Com suas galerias de arte não é diferente.


Com esses atributos, nos anos 1970, empreendedor de loteamentos, corretor de imóveis e já planejando o acervo de sua idealizada galeria, procurou por vários artistas de Minas para propor um negócio criado pelo povo hebreu, quando ninguém pensava em dinheiro, pois nem o seu conceito existia. Hebreu é palavra oriunda de Ivri, que, por sua vez, vem de Ever, uma tribo ou um conjunto de homens que iniciaram o escambo há milênios e cuja etimologia é "homem de passagem", "nômade" ou "permutador". Errol Flynn trocaria, naqueles anos, obras de arte produzidas por terrenos em um dos seus empreendimentos na cidade de Nova Lima, vizinha de Belo Horizonte. Faria o velho escambo com artistas conhecidos e desconhecidos. Naquela época, aquela cidade não era tão perto quanto hoje e nem tinha o desenvolvimento de nossos dias. Seus lotes ficaram alguns anos aguardando compradores e, para azar de quem não os comprou, o preço era baixíssimo em relação aos de hoje. Belo Horizonte cresceu para o sul, Nova Lima em direção à Belo Horizonte, as duas cidades se encontraram e os terrenos se transformaram num dos mais vantajosos investimentos imobiliários de Minas. Permutadores se tornaram amigos agradecidos desde então. Registre-se, para os historiadores mineiros, que a quantidade de artistas plásticos morando perto um do outro em Nova Lima se deve aos empreendimentos de Errol Flynn.


O tempo passou e o marchand de hoje continuou com o otimismo do qual ele não se cansa, mesmo nos seus momentos mais difíceis para ele próprio e para o país. Agora nos surpreende com a edição deste belo volume. Nele o leitor encontrará reproduções de vários artistas que, nos anos de escambo, eram desconhecidos e nos quais Errol Flynn acreditou e o tempo, única categoria dona da verdade, consagrou. Touchê! Encontrará ainda artistas brilhantes, ratificados por prêmios de viagens ao exterior e outros prêmios nacionais e estrangeiros. Vários participaram de bienais em São Paulo e Veneza e outros têm a má sorte de não serem ainda conhecidos pelo Brasil afora. Por certo, não é por falta de qualidade das suas obras. É por falta de alguém que, além de Errol Flynn, os descubram. Sorte de eles estarem neste volume. Todos são, neste momento, como os desconhecidos artistas dos anos 1970 e, breve, chegarão no nível dos consagrados pela qualidade dos trabalhos e pelo tempo de vivência em arte. Olhar e "faro" para isso não faltam a Errol Flynn.

O leitor não deve imaginar que, apesar da quantidade das reproduções, seja apenas esse o acervo de suas belas galerias em Brasília e na capital mineira; ou ainda que esses sejam os únicos artistas encontráveis nas suas paredes. Seu acervo é um universo imenso e o que o leitor pensar, do acadêmico puro, pintores que, num relance, temos a sensação de voltarmos aos tempos anteriores ao impressionismo e que pintam como se nada tivesse ocorrido no mundo nos últimos duzentos anos, ao moderno figurativo, passando pelo abstracionismo, em técnicas que vão da gravura à aquarela, do desenho ao óleo, da escultura à técnica mista, you name it; nelas estão o que o colecionador procura. 


Em Minas e em Brasília, Errol Flynn deixou, há muito, de ser nome de ator de Hollywood, para se transformar no sensível marchand que, sem causar qualquer dificuldade para o filho, transferiu-lhe o seu nome, sabendo que este e todos os outros herdariam uma importante marca de galeria de arte.

The children, by habit, pay for the desires and difficulties of the parents. The first ones are represented by the paternal requirements to graduate courses that are not their interests, or to execute tasks they, for which they do not have any ability. They fulfil that determination because parents, frustrated, had not obtained to make what they wait to see carried through in the son. On this group are the doctors who adore engineering; the lawyers who are passionate by the architecture or the nurse who dream to publish literary critical. The list is long. The difficulties are lived by the children, as consequence of those desires and are examples of them the Christian names in disuse as Napoleon, Aristotle, or Arimatéia, all appropriate for that they had become celebrities, but disastrous ones for the fearful and skinny boy, the little scholar or the criminal. 


With famous actors these names are not different. I knew a certain John Wayne who if surprised when I clarified that the true one is called Marion. Therefore, the life of our Mineiro Errol Flynn, name that is almost so known in certain regions of Brazil as the original, is surrounded by episodes that had become clichés and that do not disturb him anymore: "please to meet you, Gary Cooper" or the case of someone that doesn't know him and refuse to answer telephone, imagining to be a joker searching for a prank victim. Errol Flynn, the Hollywood actor who, for his beauty, disturbed as many women in years 1940 and 1950, also has biography a teller, sorry to inform to his existing fans. Our Errol Flynn, Mineiro from Abaeté, belong to the lineage of those born in the post-war period, whose parents, if had admiration for the actor the point to place his name in their son, also had the daily anguish and the tension of a full time of warlike conflicts, that had transformed them into life warriors. That is the best definition for this marchand, but that he was once, professionally, much more in life. In everything that he got involved with was with love and infinite devotion. With his art galleries of is not different. 


With these attributes, in the years 1970, real state Businessman, real estate broker and already planning the collection of his idealized gallery, he looked for several artists in minas to consider a business created by the Hebrew people, when nobody thought about money, because not even its concept existed. Hebrew is deriving word of Ivri, that, comes from Ever, a tribe or a group of men that had initiated the trade centuries ago and whose etymology is "passage man", " trader" or "nomad". Errol Flynn would exchange, in those years, works of art by lands in one of his enterprises in the city of Nova Lima, Belo Horizonte's neighbor. He would make the old trade with known and unknown artists. At that time, that city was not so close as it is today and didn't have the development of our days. His lots had been some years waiting for a byer, for bad luck of who did not buy them, the price were very low in comparing the prices today. Belo Horizonte grew twards south, Nova Lima twards Belo Horizonte, the two cities met and this land became one of the most advantageous real estate investments of Minas. Traders had become thankful friends since then. Is to be registered, by the historians in Minas, that the amount of plastic artists living close to each other in Nova Lima it is due to Errol Flyn's enterprises. 


The time has passed and the marchand of today continued with the optimism of which he is not gotten tired, even at his most difficult moments for himself and the country. Now surprises us with the edition of this beautiful volume. On it reader will find reproductions of several artists who, in the years of trade, were unknown and on which Errol Flynn believed and the time, only category owner of the truth, consecrated. Touchê! You will still find brilliant artists, ratified for prizes of trips abroad and other national and foreign awards. Several had participated of biennials in São Paulo and Venice and others have the bad luck not to be still known throughout Brazil . For certain, it is not due to lack of quality of their work. It is because a part from Errol Flynn, no one discover them yet. Luck of them to be in this volume. All are, at this moment, like the unknown artists of the 70's and shortly, will arrive in the level of the consecrated ones for the quality of the works and the time of experience in art. Look at and "instinct" for this Errol Flynn has a lot. 

The reader does not have to imagine that, despite the amount of the reproductions, are the only pieces on his beautiful galleries in Brasilia and at the Mineira capital; or still that these are the only artists you found in his walls. His collection is an immense universe and whatever the reader thinks, from the pure academic, painters that in a glance give us the sensation to come back to the previous times to the impressionism and that paints as if nothing had occurred in the world in last the two hundred years, to the figurative modern, passing for the abstractionism, in techniques that go from the engraving to the watercolor, the drawing with oil to the sculpture the mixing technique, you name it; on it is what the collectors are looking for. 


In Minas e Brasilia, Errol Flynn stopped being the name of a Hollywood actor to change himself into a sensible marchand that, without causing any difficulty for his son, transferred his name to him, knowing that he and all the others would inherit an important mark of art gallery.
